George Don Merlen
1930 ~ 2013

George Don Merlen, 83, passed away December 30, 2013, from the results of a fall. He was born to Josephine Quiroz and Carlos Merlen in San Francisco, California, January 30, 1930. He was married to Barbara Rosales, they later divorced. He also married Janice Terranova (Steve) Alderson, they later divorced.

He is survived by his wife Linda Lake Merlen, of Price, UT, his sister Alice Ruiz, Fremont, CA, his brother Robert Merlen, San Mateo, CA, son Carlos (Julie) Merlen, daughter Laura (David) Jenkins, sons Tony (Gina) Cain, William Merlen, Mark (Linda) Merlen, Shawn (Carol) Merlen, Tracy Merlen and stepdaughter Lisa (Daniel) Lopez and Yvette Sanchez (James) Wayman. He had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. George was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

George was a man of many talents. He was an accomplished artist, and though his works were few in number, each was executed with incredible precision and detail. He proved his talent in engineering and mechanics by building and racing drag racers, a Bonneville racer, and many stock cars. Auto racing was a passion with George, especially NASCAR racing.

His greatest talent however, was his ability to make friends, and to be a friend. A quote from "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" sums up George, "He had no gift for making money, but he had a gift of making people love him, he had nothing but himself to give, and of this, he gave generously."

George will continue to be loved by all who knew him.

No services are scheduled at this time.
